Foraging Kiwikiu Aloha Shirt by David Shepard
THE STORY BEHIND THE HAND-DRAWN DESIGN
This is an amazing Hawaiian shirt featuring the striking pattern of the Kiwikiu. The Kiwikiu, also known as the Maui Parrotbill, is a rare and endangered bird found in the forests of Maui's high elevations. With its unique foraging habits - scouring tree trunks, branches, and fruit for insects - the Kiwikiu plays a crucial role in maintaining the health of the forest. Sadly, this beautiful bird is under threat from disease-carrying mosquitoes that are moving into higher elevations due to climate change. To combat this, organizations like The Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project, The Nature Conservancy, and Birds, Not Mosquitoes are working tirelessly to protect the Kiwikiu and other native Hawaiian honeycreepers from extinction.
