Hawaiian Koa Wood Live Edge Turned Vase

This is a Hawaiian Koa wood live edge hand-turned vase #600. With a gentle contour, this deep brown and blonde Koa vase is filled with beautiful reflective curls and grain patterns that mirror the unique and rich characteristics of Koa wood. Finding a Koa wood vase like this is rare. Because of the high cost of Koa wood, a wood blank of this size is typically broken up into smaller pieces and sold separately to maximize its monetary value. This vase is a trophy piece. This wooden vase is sure to be a conversation piece and will bring a subtle elegance and warmth that only fine Hawaiian art can bring to any environment. This handmade Koa vase heirloom is unique, branded, and numbered.

This Hawaiian Koa wood live edge vase was hand turned by KoaWood Ranch founder Craig Villarrubia. He was part of the entire process, from painstaking cutting the Koa tree to preparing the branch and blank, before placing it on the lathe for shaping. This particular piece was part of the crotch section of the branch. It was a tree that had fallen due to age-related decline. The wood was a bit punky but the level of curl and chatoyancy is off the charts. The piece was finished with Danish oil and beeswax. Craig's work reflects a contemporary take on the traditional Hawaiian Koa calabash bowl.
